Amal Umar's portrayal of Habiba in the critically acclaimed film "The Herd" has earned her widespread praise and a Best Actress nomination. In this exclusive interview, she reflects on her journey.

"When I first read the script, I cried," Umar reveals. "Habiba's story is one that many women in Northern Nigeria can relate to — the struggle for agency, for voice, for recognition."

The filming process itself was challenging. Shot on location in rural Kaduna, the cast and crew faced extreme heat, limited facilities, and long days.

"There were moments when I wanted to give up," she admits. "But then I would think of the women whose stories we were telling, and I found strength I didn't know I had."

Umar's performance has been described by critics as "revelatory" and "career-defining," and she credits the collaborative spirit of the entire production team.

"Film is never a solo endeavor. Every member of the crew contributed to making this story authentic and powerful."
